World History and Literature Intensive Program

Reading literary works from historical time periods is critical to developing a better understanding and a deeper appreciation of history and vice versa. This summer intensive program will guide students as they examine iterary masterpieces and the historical conditions that influenced them.

It will also serve as a general overview and introduction of world history. Course materials include Prentice Hall’s World History; A Reader through the Ages Part 1 and 2 (compiled by the instructor). The reader includes excerpts of the Bhagavad Gita, Confucius’ Analects, Plato’s Parable of the Cave, the Bible, The Prince, and more.

Required literary works include: Epic of Gilgamesh; Oedipus Rex, Antigone, Beowulf, Julius Caesar, The Rule of Four, Night.
