SAT Evidence Based Reading Program

Pre-SAT Evidence Based Reading Class

Target Audience

  • I. Students too early to start SAT prep (8th~9Th)
  • II. Students who need systematic prep for Evidence Based Reading
  • III. Students who currently have Evidence Based Reading scores of less than 300

Purpose

  • To develop critical thinking skills necessary to solve Evidence Based Reading questions
  • To become more familiar with all types of passages (Long, Dual Long, Short, Dual Short)
  • To recognize the various types of questions and the corresponding strategies necessary to solve such questions
  • To learn hidden Answer Pattern and to apply the pattern to questions
  • To memorize 1000 basic SAT words

Explanation

The Evidence Based Reading Section is not merely about reading the passage and finding the answers to the questions. To do well one must confidently grasp the meaning of the passage and then be able to clearly discern the difference between correct and wrong answers. Therefore students who have just begun preparing for the SAT or those who have not yet reached a score of 300 in Evidence Based Reading must learn how to clearly understand the passage and to analyze the structure of the passage.

Students will learn such critical thinking strategies in the Cum Laude class and furthermore will familiarize themselves with the characteristics and types of questions that will appear on the reading passages. They will then apply what they have learned to solve such questions. By doing so, and through open discussions in class, they will develop the skill set to find clues from the passage, which will aid them in distinguishing between correct and wrong answers.

Through clear explanations of correct answers and further explanations on what makes wrong answers wrong the class will expand one’s reasoning skills.

Intermediate Evidence Based Reading Class

Target Audience

  • I. Students who have completed Pre-SAT class
  • II. Students who aim for scores higher than 340 on SAT Evidence Based Reading
  • III. Students who have scores higher than 300 on Evidence Based Reading

Purpose

  • To be able to understand see the trend of various passages based on critical thinking skills
  • To recognize all 8 types of questions and the corresponding strategies necessary to solve such types of questions
  • To learn a Hidden Answer Pattern and to apply the pattern to questions
  • To develop time management skills
  • To learn 1500 basic & intermediate words

Explanation

Students will critically read various types of passages and analyze their logical structures in the Magna Cum Laude class. Students will focus on accurately finding the necessary evidence within the passage to answer each question and will also focus on quickly solving questions based on various strategies. In addition, through the use of Hidden Answer Pattern students will learn how to eliminate the wrong answers first and then to identify the correct answer based on comparing the remaining answers and the evidence offered from the passage. Students will learn techniques which will enable them to more quickly read passage.

Advanced/High Level Evidence Based Reading Class

Target Audience

  • I. Students who have completed the Intermediate class
  • II. Students who aim for Evidence Based Reading scores higher than 360
  • III. Students who have Evidence Based Reading scores higher than 330

Purpose

  • To solve various questions
  • To apply the Hidden Answer Pattern technique
  • To learn how to efficiently manage time
  • To memorize 2000 words

Explanation

The class will prepare students for the actual exam based on daily mock tests. Students will solve the most recent questions and words that have appeared on the tests. Through the application of the Hidden Answer Pattern technique students will learn how to eliminate wrong answers and to find the correct answers by comparing the given answers with the evidence offered in the passage. Additional emphasis will be placed on efficiently appropriating time during the test.

SAT Writing

Pre-SAT Evidence Based Writing Class

The main purpose of the Pre-SAT Writing course is to introduce you to the world of SAT writing. We will go over both the essay and multiple choice portions of the test, but mainly focus on exploring the general SAT grammar as well as the test-taking strategies. The process of writing the SAT essay will be broken into steps and a student will become familiar with the general writing templates as well as sample essay examples. This course is highly recommended for students who are looking for a good introductory class to SAT writing.

Intermediate Evidence Based Writing Class

The main purpose of the Magna Cum Laude Writing course is to help a student get a score higher than 350on the SAT I writing section. We will focus on exploring the 20 grammar patterns that most frequently appear on the SAT I and discussing different strategies for each pattern. At the end of the summer intensive course, a student will be able to identify and use tactics that will help maximize the student’s SAT writing score. In addition, this course will also cover the essay portion of the test; the topics that often appear on the test will be categorized by themes and be further reviewed in detail. A detailed writing feedback from the teacher will encourage students to brainstorm better essay examples.

Advanced/High Level Evidence Based Writing Class

The main purpose of the Summa Cum Laude Writing course is to guide a student towards a perfect score on the SAT I writing section. Intended for highly qualified students, who are already getting above a 330 on the section, the course will focus on reviewing the real SAT I questions and discussing test-taking strategies. A student will be encouraged to polish his or her own individualized examples for the essay and a detailed writing feedback from the teacher would enable the student to have state-of-the-art essay examples.
